FAQ > Sublimation > What Is Sublimation?

F.A.Q.

The Definition of Sublimate: The American Heritage Science Dictionary defines sublimation as, "The process of changing from a solid to a gas without passing through an intermediate liquid phase."
The AI Sublimation Process: The sublimation process begins by printing a color accurate design on paper using sublimation inks. Fabric containing a percentage of synthetic material is then placed on top of the paper and pushed through our heat transfer machine. The heat opens the pores of the fabric and actually transforms the ink into a gas, which permeates the fabric. Once the heat process is complete and the air hits the fabric, the pores close, capturing the ink permanently. The end result, a precise replica of the printed design appears on the fabric.
